One of my goals as the Faculty Senate Chair has been to increase communication between the Faculty Senate and faculty. To achieve that goal, brochures were distributed at convocation, bookmarks listing the major issues under discussion were distributed during the semester, the web page has been revised to include a log of Senate activities to allow easier searching, and the Senate Blog was started to improve communication on the issues.
How effective have you found these initiatives? What further changes would you suggest?

Although meant with good intent, the action taken to submit to President DiCroce a faculty evaluation plan that she could not approve did not enhance the reputation of the faculty. I can hear the Executive Staff chuckling now about the faculty's ability to propose a plan that has straight forward VCCS policy conditions in order to be executed; and they fail to execute those conditions.
Such a comment disparages the professionalism of the administration and demonstrates a mighty ignorance of the deeply abstract weaknesses (or purposeful vagueness) in the VCCS policy. It is easy to cast aspersions when they are well insulated by a lack of knowledge.
Many can find flaws; few have the ability, focus, or ethics to attempt to fix them. As educators we encourage our students to continually strive forward and see set backs as opportunities to learn and re-engage. How sad that some of us cannot extend this to our own colleagues.
This thread is about communication feedback. Why are you posting comments about the FEP? There is an entire thread dedicated to the FEP. What are your thoughts on communications?
In my opinion, this BLOG and the Faculty Senate log are HUGE improvements over where the senate stood under the previous regime. I have one-stop shopping if I want to know what are the current topics and even the status on each proposal. Way to go!
